RESUMES, EMAILS, BUSINESS CARDS & WEBSITES

A NOTE ABOUT HAVING A RESUME

People in their 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s probably don’t need a detailed 2-page resume unless it’s absolutely necessary. At this stage of the game, maybe all you need is a One - Page Overview of your Business or Work Background. Take each section that talks about each company or time frame and condense it so it fits on One Page. (If possible).

EMAIL TEMPLATE

Use regularly to send Cover Letters (& Resumes if needed). DON’T JUST SAY, enclosed is my information for the job/situation listed above in the subject line. This should say why you are sending your info and how it specifically relates to their job listing or project requirements. Build in a little human element.

OPTIONAL

Embed a snapshot of your business card with your signature at the bottom of the Email. Worked for me on several occasions

BUSINESS CARD

- Vital to have and hand out. Check out places like VistaPrint, Staples, moo, Zazzle, Canva, etc. for various templates.

SIMPLE WEBSITE

Both business cards and website if starting a business or you already have one set up. Every time I go to a conference or a networking event and I collect numerous business cards, the next morning I go directly to their websites to see who I’m dealing with. It’s a point of reference and an important thing to have – even if it’s just a simple 2- or 3-page website.

Companies like Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, and GoDaddy, have templates where you just plug in your Text/Copy and any Graphics or Images you choose.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Unless you are skilled at working with any of these templates, I would strongly suggest using the services of someone who is very familiar with the particular platform you choose.
