Believe there is more to you / your life than what is currently transpiring.
I went from picking online grocery orders at Whole Foods to working with leading caterers, events and hospitality agencies at major events and venues in NYC.
The process that evolved and the success I started having and where it has led is the reason for these blog posts. And the possibility that my experience can be helpful to others.
o I turned my life around and got back on track
o Didn’t want a (long-term) career – my age was a definite factor...
o Wasn’t climbing the corporate ladder - didn’t have that kind of background
o Any gigs / jobs were not going to be forever
o Motivated me to look at other possibilities
o I now had a consistent income
o Found an area I was good at that fit my personality and I’m milking it
There have been and continue to be a lot of positives and side benefits that have come out of this whole experience. For ex:
> Lost weight
> Lowered my cholesterol by 50 points
> Tighter body and more definition all over
> Overall fit level increased
> Confidence way up
> Self-assuredness and better outlook and attitude
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT - RANDOM THOUGHTS
DON’T BE JUDGEMENTAL
Don’t be quick to judge or disparage something you may not have considered doing before or someone who is.
I remember so many people when hearing I was an in-store shopper saying, “I wouldn’t do that”.
Neither would I until I needed to make some money and this was the low-hanging fruit for me. It was a jumping-off point – something to get me started, to get off ground zero! AND... look where I am now from when I started.
Also, the friendships, and camaraderie that’s been built up at several places I worked. The day-to-day interaction with people that is so important to us enriches our lives. Tough to put a price on that.
BE CAREFUL OF THIS STATEMENT:
“Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”.
The suggestion is that by doing something you love - you’ll never have to work a day in your life. Not necessarily, because you may not like the Business Side of What You Love To Do... Every day of it.
You may love baking pies and cakes for family and friends’ holiday parties, Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners, Birthdays, and those Special Occasions. But you may definitely not love to run a dessert café and all that’s entailed in doing so. Just think about that for a moment...
o Getting up at the crack of dawn to serve coffee with your delicious pies, muffins, pastries, cakes, etc.
o Hiring staff – Open 7 days per week?
o Getting deliveries of flour, and all things related to making all that delicious stuff you’re known for
o Renting space
o The décor
o Getting an Accountant and a Lawyer
o Amongst other important elements of running your new “something you love to do” business
On second thought, maybe you’ll just keep baking for Special Occasions for now.
